New Delhi: Voting took place today for 15 Rajya Sabha seats in three states. Due to cross voting in the Rajya Sabha elections held in UP, Congress and Karnataka, there was a lot of uproar and political parties accused each other fiercely.
The Election Commission of India had issued a notification in January announcing elections for 56 seats in 15 states. However, out of these, elections were held only on 15 seats in three states, candidates were elected unopposed on the remaining 41 seats.
Yesterday, Rajya Sabha elections were held in Himachal Pradesh, UP and Karnataka. Out of which Himachal and UP remained in the news due to cross voting.
Rajya Sabha elections: What happened in Uttar Pradesh?
10 MPs were elected to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. Out of which eight MPs were elected from BJP and 2 MPs from Samajwadi Party.
But cross voting in Rajya Sabha elections increased the political stir in UP. The victory of 7 BJP MPs was already considered certain. Some MLAs of Samajwadi Party changed sides and voted for BJP by cross voting, due to which the eighth MP of BJP also won.
Even before the Rajya Sabha voting, Samajwadi Party Chief Whip Manoj Pandey had resigned.
Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav wrote on It is against. He writes, “Our third seat in the Rajya Sabha was actually a test to identify the true comrades and to know who was with the PDA at heart and who was against the backward classes, Dalits and minorities by conscience. Now everything is clear, this is the victory of the third seat.”

Rajya Sabha Elections: What happened in Himachal Pradesh?
Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh were the most interesting. Congress had strong numbers in Himachal Pradesh, yet Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi lost to BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan. Out of total 68 votes, Congress had 40 votes, but due to cross voting of Congress MLAs, Congress and BJP got 34 votes each. After which the decision was taken based on toss, in which BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan won.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu said that 6 Congress MLAs did cross voting. Himachal Chief Minister Sukhu told in the press conference that When someone has sold out their honesty…Nine cross-voting took place, three of them were Independent MLAs but six others sold their honesty…and voted against him (Abhishek Singhvi).

BJP leader and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur targeted the Congress and said, “After today’s result (of Rajya Sabha polls in Himachal Pradesh), the CM should resign because he has no moral right to remain in power.”

Due to objection at the time of counting, the counting had to be stopped for some time.
Rajya Sabha elections: What happened in Karnataka?
Elections were held for a total of 4 seats in Karnataka. Out of which Congress won 3 seats and BJP won 1 seat.
From Congress side, Ajay Maken won with 47 votes, Nasir Hussain won with 47 votes and GC Chandrashekhar won with 45 votes. Whereas, BJP candidate Narayan Krishnasa Bhandge won with 47 votes. Although the BJP candidate was allotted 48 votes, one BJP MLA voted in favor of the Congress by cross-voting.
Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashok said that he will write a letter to the BJP high command and appeal for action against them.
