However, Mamata Banerjee is not participating in this meeting due to pre-scheduled programs. The most important topic of discussion in the virtual meeting being held today is going to be the seat sharing formula. There will also be a discussion on whether India should be made the coordinator of the alliance or not.
Indian National Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Friday that the participation of alliance parties in the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra starting from January 14 in Manipur will also be on the agenda of the meeting.
Since coming together in July last year, the Congress and AAP have on several occasions exchanged passive-aggressive words over how they plan to contest state and Lok Sabha elections. But to challenge BJP at the Centre, Congress will need the support of the Aam Aadmi Party, which is running the government in Delhi and Punjab. Congress units in both the states are against any kind of agreement with AAP.
AAP and Congress leaders held a meeting yesterday to resolve their differences. The meeting held at the house of Congress leader Mukul Wasnik lasted for about two hours and leaders of both the parties described it as positive.
Both the parties were involved in seat-sharing discussions even before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but no consensus was reached as both wanted to contest four out of seven seats in Delhi.
Bihar is also very important from the point of view of seat sharing. According to sources, JDU has told Congress that it wants at least 17 seats in Bihar. At present JDU has 16 MPs in Bihar and Congress has only 1 MP. The news is that out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats that JDU has asked for, 16 are those seats which it had won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and 1 seat has been asked for Kishanganj seat, where Congress had won in the 2019 Lok Sabha and JDU. Was at second place. There are total 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar.
One of the RJD leader has suggested the practical solution to seat sharing in Bihar is that out of total 40 seats, JDU should field its candidates on 17 seats, RJD on 17 seats and Congress on 4 out of the remaining 6 seats and Left on 2 seats.
Today’s INDIA Bloc meeting is very important for the future of the INDIA alliance.
