New Delhi: Today is the sixth day of farmers’ protest at Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border. Today the farmers will hold the sixth round of talks with the government.
The fourth round of talks will be held between farmers and the government on Sunday, February 18. Farmers are protesting regarding MSP and other demands. On behalf of the government, Union Minister Arjun Munda, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai will discuss the demands of farmer unions with the farmers’ delegation on February 18. Earlier talks between the two sides on 8, 12 and 15 February were inconclusive. Meanwhile, the conflict between farmers and police is going on at Shambhu border for the last five days. Farmers want to cross the Shambhu border and move towards Delhi. Many farmers have been injured so far amid this conflict. Out of which some farmers have suffered serious injuries and some have even lost their eyes.
On February 18, General Secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarwan Singh Pandher said, “Today is our sixth day at Shambhu border. Today we are also talking to the government. The government has sought some time and said that it will discuss the matter with Union ministers and together find a solution.”
The most important demands of farmers:
Farmers have many demands, but the most important demand among them is Minimum Support Price (MSP). Farmers demand that the government should bring an ordinance to provide guarantee of MSP.
Sarwan Singh Pandher, general secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, told journalists at Shambhu border that “if the government wants, it can bring an ordinance overnight.” If she wants a solution to the farmers’ protest, she should bring an ordinance. Bharatiya Kisan Union (Sidhupur) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal agreed with Pandher and reiterated the demand for an ordinance.
Demands of Farmers:
MSP guarantee law should be made on the purchase of all crops.
The price of all crops should be given under the C2+50% formula as per the instructions of Dr. Swaminathan Commission.
Complete loan waiver to farmers and farm laborers.
Justice should be done in the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre case, the culprit Ajay Mishra should be dismissed from the cabinet and arrested. Ashish Mishra’s bail should be canceled and as per the agreement, Rs 10 lakh should be given to the injured.
The government should withdraw all the cases filed against farmers during the movement.
On the other hand, now farmers of UP and Haryana are also seen joining this movement. In view of this, the ban on internet services in the districts including Haryana has been extended till February 19.
