New Delhi: 2 years ago, Modi government had brought 3 agricultural laws, but the government had to bow down to the farmers’ movement 2 years ago in protest against those laws and had to withdraw the 3 agricultural laws.
Farmers are going to protest again to fulfill the demands that Modi government had made to the farmers 2 years ago, which have not been fulfilled till now.
Two big organizations of farmers, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) have raised the slogan of ‘Delhi Kuch’ on 13th February regarding their demands.
Two years ago, the movement of farmers sitting on strike on the border of Delhi was so vocal. Narendra Modi government passed Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Simplification) Act-2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price. Assurance and Agricultural Services Act 2020. And the Essential Commodities Amendment Act 2020 had to be cancelled.
Farmers feared that through these laws, the government could abolish the rule of giving minimum support price on some selected crops and promote corporatization of farming. After this they will have to depend on big agri-commodity companies.
After the repeal of these agricultural laws, the farmers also withdrew their movement. During that time the government had promised to guarantee them Minimum Support Price (MSP). Along with this, a promise was also made to fulfill some of their other demands.
Farmers are now preparing to exert pressure to accept these demands. The slogan of ‘Dilli Chalo’ of 13th February is a part of his strategy.
What is the demand of farmers movement:
- Government should guarantee MSP.
- The government should completely waive off the loans of farmers.
- Farmers and farm laborers should be given pension.
- In the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the culprits should be punished and the victims should get justice.
- Farmers should be kept out of pollution laws.
- Cases against farmers should be withdrawn.
- Electricity Amendment Bill 2020 should be repealed.
Farmers movement: attempt to negotiate
A committee comprising Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Arjun Munda, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai has been formed by the government to talk to the farmers.
Dallewal (Leader of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha) said that these ministers are holding talks with the farmers in Chandigarh on 12th February but if it fails then the farmers will march towards Delhi on 13th February.
Dallewal told that on February 8, these ministers had held the first round of talks with the farmers on behalf of the government. There will be talks again today on 12th.
