New Delhi: Today is the third day of the farmers’ movement, the clash between farmers and policemen is still going on at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border.
The police are continuously firing tear gas shells to stop the protesters. But this time farmers have also adopted new methods to protect themselves from tear gas.
Farmers are using Multani mitti on their faces to protect themselves from the burning sensation caused by tear gas.
What did the protesters say?
According to The Hindu, farmer Gagandeep Singh, who was protesting at the Shambhu border, said, “We had brought kites to celebrate the festival, but then the drones arrived. Accidentally, the string of the kite got entangled in the wings of the drone, due to which it had difficulty in flying. We tried to pull him down, but he stepped back and fell on the other side of the barricade.

Some farmers were seen applying a thick layer of toothpaste, while others took a mixture of multani mitti (mud pack) and water to reduce the burning sensation caused by tear gas. Some of them had also brought along paddy plucking fans to divert the smoke coming out of the tear gas shells. Amit Punia, one of the protesters, said: “Tear gas is irritating to the skin and eyes, causing unbearable burning sensation. Since Colgate and Multani Mitti have cooling properties, we are using them to protect our skin.
Another farmer from Shambhu said that many farmers have difficulty breathing due to tear gas, The Hindu reported. Manjeet Singh says, “Some farmers have been vomiting since yesterday and we are protecting ourselves with goggles, multani mitti paste and water as well as wet clothes on our face and nose.”
Mahesh Choudhary, who is coordinating media for Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, said, “It is impossible to counter tear gas attacks; We do not have the resources for this. However it was quite symbolic that a kite could come in the path of a drone. “Till now, we have been using wet jute bags on tear gas shells to protect ourselves and salt to reduce the burning sensation.”
According to many reports, it is being told that so far around 200 farmers have been injured in this conflict.
